By K. Patrice Williams, Fairfield City Council, District 1 (Cordelia/Green Valley)

My opponent’s campaign has tried to brand me as a California Forever rubber stamp. It’s a convenient label. It’s also not true, and the record backs me up.

The actual vote

I cast one vote last spring in favor of shipbuilding as an industry Solano County could build around, tied to workforce development, small business growth, and our local schools and colleges. I grew up watching an aerospace employer, Grumman, on Long Island, give my own family a shot at a middle class life. My parents worked there. It paid for summer trips, for college, for a house. I want that same kind of anchor industry here for Fairfield families. That’s the whole vote. It is not a blank check for every California Forever position, and treating it like one flattens a real decision into a slogan.

That vote was Resolution 2025-61, “Supporting Shipbuilding in Solano County,” on April 15, 2025. It passed unanimously, 7-0, including the vote of then-Mayor Cat Moy. This wasn’t a lone council member pushing a pet project. It was the whole Fairfield City Council, across every perspective on that dais, agreeing that shipbuilding is worth supporting as an industry for this region.

I also don’t foresee another Fairfield City Council vote on anything related to California Forever itself coming before us. The decisions ahead, the environmental review and the land use calls that will actually shape what gets built, belong to the Solano County Board of Supervisors, Suisun City, and possibly Dixon, who will be the ones reviewing what I expect will be volumes of environmental impact reports and making the real determinations. Fairfield’s vote was about shipbuilding as an industry, not a referendum on California Forever’s broader plans.

Supporting a tax on the people who fund California Forever

Here’s the part my opponent’s campaign leaves out. I’m supporting Proposition 40 on this November’s ballot, the California Billionaire Tax Act. It’s a one time 5% wealth tax on California residents worth over $1 billion, with 90% of the revenue going to public health care and the rest to education and food assistance.

California Forever’s financial backing traces directly to billionaire wealth. You don’t get to cast me as California Forever’s candidate while I’m campaigning for a tax on billionaires. Those two positions don’t belong in the same story, and voters deserve that contrast spelled out plainly rather than buried under a label.

Judge the vote, not the label

I’m not going to pretend one vote doesn’t matter. It does, and I’ll defend it on the merits every time I’m asked. What I won’t accept is having an entire record reduced to a label that isn’t accurate. Fairfield voters are capable of weighing a single, specific decision on its own terms. I’m asking you to do exactly that.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. Ballots have arrived, please mail yours back right away, or drop it at an official ballot drop box, your voice in District 1 (Cordelia/Green Valley) decides this race.
